Course Description:                                                       Lesson Plan

This 1 day course (8 Hours) is appropriate for those working in operational roles where they are required to perform work at heights. .

This unit provides participant’s with the skills and knowledge required to work safety at heights in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

After successfully completing this course, applicants will be knowledgeable about and understand:

• How to work at heights in a safe manner
• The requirements of the Code of Practice “Prevention of Falls in The Workplace” “Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996 with amendments 2002” regarding fall injury prevention systems
• Applicable sections of the MSIA & Regulations
• Requirements of AS 1891Definitions of fall arrest and restraint
• Using the hierarchy of control to reduce hazards at heights
• Inspect, fit and use a full body harness
• Identify and understand the application of different items of fall protection
• Use of twin lanyards
• Fall trauma
• Basic requirements regarding use of scaffolding
• Basic requirements regarding EWP use
• Requirements regarding setting up of static lines
• Correct use of ladders
• Understand fall distances
• Requirements for rescue procedures and systems available
   

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and Industry sectors.  

The course comprises a written theory assessment, followed by a practical assessment. Participants need to have a strong command of the English language in order to complete the written assessment for these courses.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements

• This unit requires the ability to interpret any permits or other documentation associated with work at heights. 
• Writing is required to the level of completing required workplace reports. 
• Numeracy is required to enable the determination of weights, loads and similar activities.

It is strongly recommended that prior to enrolling in this course, you take this Online Language, Literacy and Numeracy Indicator Test to evaluate your skills in:

• Writing,
• Learning,
• Oral Communication, and
• Numeracy.

These are the 5 core skills that make up the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). These skills have been identified as the basic skills that a person needs in the community, classroom and workplace.

A completed booking form must be submitted to the RTO Administrator, along with payment in order to secure a seat at the nominated training course.
